The short explanation of this alert was:

Every year thousands of working people are fired for trying to join unions and employers are able to break the rules and avoid respecting workers rights because the system is broken. Ensuring the right of all workers to join a union if they choose is a key part of rebuilding America’s middle class.  Congress has introduced the Employee Free Choice Act in the House and Senate that will help but corporate interests are ready to fight this every step of the way.

Unfortunately, Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter has already indicated that he opposes this key legislation.  Please send a message to Sen. Specter urging him to reconsider his decision.

This bill:

• Makes it easier for workers to choose to join a union
• Strengthens the penalties for employers that violate the law
• Helps employees secure a contract with an employer in a reasonable period of time
