The short explanation of this alert was:

Marquez employees have had enough of the substandard pay, unaffordable health benefits, and unsafe conditions and have chosen to join together for a better life with LIUNA. Marquez has responded by threatening workers who want to join the union and has fired one employee.

Marquez Brothers has also contracted with a law firm that specializes in destroying workers’ efforts to form a union. They have forced workers to attend intimidating anti-union meetings.  The San Jose-based company has a documented history of law-breaking. The company faced unfair labor practices charges at other facilities when workers have tried to join together in the past. Marquez has faced 23 serious safety violations and more than $100,000 in fines by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration.
